LETTER
Wychwood’s Chainsaw Massacre
I was under the impression that all large trees in Gatineau required approval and a permit from the City before they could be cut down. When I saw those beautiful pine trees being destroyed from that corner lot of Arbutus at Oakwood, it was a sad day for our environment of Wychwood as well as for Aylmer. Obviously the City of Gatineau favours new property taxes over a green, healthy environment and community.
If permits were not approved and permission not granted by the City, this home-owner should be held accountable and required to replace those trees with others, as well as pay a hefty fine. If the City did give permission to remove these old majestic 100-year-old pines, whoever was responsible should be fired, and the City should replace those trees. Lucie Goulet is absolutely right in her condemnation of this new homeowner's actions? Nice neighbourhood?
