Winter parking fees?

 

I read the Bulletin d’Aylmer about winter parking with great interest.

$85 over 4 months equals $21.25 per month for the privilege of parking on your own street, leaving your driveway for snow clearing or overnight visitors -- as long as you move your vehicle when there is a 5 to 10 cm snow fall for street clearing.  Although many side streets don’t get cleaned on time.

I ask City Council to modify the price so families whose children are students out of town be given a cheaper “temporary” pass -- for students coming home for a break.      

Calculations are easy. If the winter pass is $21.25 monthly for 4 months, a student home for a month around Christmas, would cost the monthly $21.25. For March break, we go to a weekly sum -- 1 week divided by the monthly total would be $5.31, for 2 weeks $10.62. The distance for “out of town” would be set by City Council.

Each student would present their student I.D. card at the kiosk to purchase the pass because their school and year would appear on the card.
