Widening of Pink Road: a compromise at the expense of the City

The redevelopment of the Pink Road project will be slightly modified in order to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, but this will not generate further delays, according to the district councillor Maude Marquis-Bissonnette and Hull MNA Maryse Gaudreault. The City will have to cover the costs of these changes.

Ms Marquis-Bissonnette indicated that she will soon bring a resolution to council to propose a “compromise” to what she first wished for and that could have created delays in the project. The councillor first proposed to modify the location of the bike link to improve the safety of cyclists. Such a modification would have required that the project be reviewed by the ministère des Transports du Québec who finances the project.

“This was my first file when I entered politics”, said Ms Marquis-Bissonnette. “The project was well underway and I didn’t want to jeopardize it. The proposition I will be submitting soon to council is not ideal, according to me, but it is a compromise.”

The Hull MNA confirms that the minor changes could be made to the Pink Road widening project, between de la Gravité Street and Boulevard des Grives, but that they must not cause any delays to the project. “The cost of these minor improvements must be covered by the City of Gatineau,” she adds. Ms Marquis-Bissonnette says that is the reason why she will be submitting a resolution to the municipal council. ­Details on the modifications as well as associated costs are still to come.
