Which side of the bike path for pedestrians?
My friend and I have been debating on which side of the bike path pedestrians should walk. According to me it’s the same as on the streets, on the left side facing the traffic.
After some research I found out that there are different rules for different municipalities. In St-Jérome, with one of the longest bike paths in Québec, they added tons of information and signs trying to educate pedestrians to use the left side and cyclists the right side of the path. But it’s not as clear in Gatineau and Ottawa.
Being a daily cyclist I find it dangerous that half of all pedestrians walk on the left and half walk on the right side.
Maybe it’s time for the municipal and provincial governments to self-educate and take a good look at this before someone gets hurt. All municipalities should have the same rules?
