What’s the importance of local news for you?
The Bulletin took to the streets of Aylmer to ask its citizens, “Why do you support your local newspaper?”
“I like to read local events. I love the feel of a local paper, the fact that it showcases things that are going are right next door without you knowing about it. The Bulletin is also always in French and English so, being English, it allows me to read in my native tongue and feel proud of my communities achievements.”—Nicole Bergeron
“Reading a local newspaper is really learning about what’s going on around you, whether it’s local activities or things that deserve some spotlight. Local news has a certain proximity to citizens and communities that are very often lacking in the larger-scale papers.”— Gilles Pelletier
“For me, the big thing that comes out of local news is construction. Works planned on small roads as well as residential and commercial projects. I love my city, but I find that we build too many condos here, local newspapers like the Bulletin allow us as citizens to be informed about these projects and to be heard by the city about them.” —Jean-François Bilodeau
“Whether on paper or online, local news is a must. It’s so important to see what the people around us are doing here and to know about the smaller issues that truly affect us. I hope we can find a solution to the problems facing local media, because it is just as important to have news that concerns us and that allows us to learn about our community as it is to know everything about national issues.” — Louise Rousseau
“Local news is very important – finding out what’s happening in the community, whether it be local achievements, infrastructure, knowing what our municipal councillors are thinking and doing – local news is crucial. It allows people to know their community, to build bonds and also keep their local actors in check.” —Joanne and Tim
