What a theocracy might prevent (Reply to last week’s editorial) 

A Christian who keeps his faith to himself is not a Christian.  Unlike Judaism which has little interest in recruitment and Islam which preaches “Taqiya”  to further its cause, Christianity  demands of its followers to stand up and be counted.  Bill 21 will ban true Christians and leave public services filled with nothing but atheists and ersatz Christians - those for whom a crucifix was a fashion accessory.

 

Quite apart from questions like, “Will they really throw all the First Aid packs out of all the public offices and the Red Cross out of the hospitals as they bear the Christian cross?”, there lies a fundamentally profound concern at the direction in which the world is going.

Someone once said, the moment you accept atheism is about 8 seconds before you realise that you can do anything you want without consequences.  If I ever have to be admitted to hospital, a state-run monopoly, the last thing I want is some empathy-free clown who entered medicine simply because it pays well, getting a cheap thrill out of my suffering and wondering just what would happen if he...

As those with any form of conscience are weeded out, hot on the heels of legalizing “assisted suicide”, one wonders in this era of an aging population and dwindling public resources, how long before this new wave of conscience-free supervisors comes under pressure to start pushing the envelope on ‘liberating’ precious bed spaces of the old, the long-term sick, and those with ‘unhelpful’ or ‘unacceptable’ views on politics or religion, as editorialist Fred Ryan might put it?

This is not going to end well.
