The Regional Association of West Quebecers (RAWQ) announced, August 19, the hiring of a new Executive Director, Brian Rock, to replace retiring Heather Stronach, effective August 31.
Mr Rock is a former educator and school principal, recently elected President of the Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations (QFHSA), the founding Chairman of the Coalition For the Future of English Education in Québec (COFFEE-Québec), a representative to the Linguistic Rights Support Program (LRSP), and a member of the Election Systems Study Panel (ESSP). Mr Rock has served on the RAWQ Board of Directors as Secretary andhas chaired RAWQ’s Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Committee.
RAWQ’s president, Jim Shea, told the media that Mr Rock’s mandate includes leading the association’s effort to become even further involved in West Quebec’s English-language community, to increase membership, especially among local youth, and to bring in more community partnerships. “Our task is to develop partnerships that will enable us to be productive members of our community”, noted Mr. Shea.
RAWQ is the association of English-speaking residents of the Outaouais, dedicated to working within Quebec to advance the causes and needs of that community. Its board members represent most regions of West Quebec, and its head office has recently moved to the Galeries Aylmer.
