LETTER
Water meters?
Ronald Lefefvre’s (earlier) letter on wasting water is well taken.
It should be noted that this Council does not need any suggestion on how to pass their responsibility to the taxpayer. Remember the ill-contrived dumber-than-dumb garbage program. How stupid.
We lived with well water for about 50 years. My children were taught at a very early age not to waste water. They would not let the shower run, not let the water run for nothing in kitchen, not flush the toilet at night when it was only pee, we had a pool, and we did not top it up every day; I very seldom watered the lawn, etc.
I am a believer in user-pay with reason. Installing meters in every residence is simply punishing the frugal users. Yes, meters would be the answer; however, the meter would only start charging for water after a pre-determined amount of litres were used up, depending on the number of persons living the residence. A number of methods for determining the number of persons in a residence is readily available.
This Council intends to spend more than 5 million dollars of our money on new garbage containers. They should put that useless program aside and look at water management
This same method of charging could be used for hydro.
