Speed limit reduced on many Aylmer Streets

Gatineau council wants Aylmer motorists to ease off their accelerators. With speeding being among the top concerns of many residents, council acted months ago by adopting new rules which are now coming into effect and which will see the speed limit reduced on a number of streets.

One is Lucerne Boulevard. The speed limit will drop from 70 km/h to 50 km/h east of Pine Street and from 70 km/h to 60 km/h near Foley Street. In some areas, the speed limit drops to 40 km/h  -- Wilfrid-Lavigne Boulevard, for example, an important north-south axis.

North Aylmer, grows & slows

North Aylmer’s streets will also drop, as the area transforms into a residential area.  Mountain Road, known locally as “the raceway”, will decrease by 10 and 20 km/h in many zones. The same applies to parts of Terry Fox, Allen, Klock and Vanier Roads, all growing with new housing. Much of the development fueling these changes is just over the town line in the Pontiac, all the way to Luskville, as well as in North Aylmer.

Gatineau has also launched a speed-reduction awareness campaign, which includes inviting residents to post lawn signs with the new speed limit. Residents should contact their councillor,  or call the city for more details on the changes -- and on specific speed-reduction measures now in effect.
