Waste disposal?

 

This photograph shows how garbage is dumped in rural areas.  What’s been dumped on this site in the northwest corner of the Aylmer sector is mostly household garbage.  Also included are tires, construction debris and even a washing machine!  This dumping is taking place before the new law, limiting the amount of garbage citizens can dispose of, comes into force in Gatineau.   One can only imagine how bad it will get with the new limits.  There appears to be agreement that the new law will result in additional dumping.  In his letter in the Aylmer Bulletin on April 11, Councillor Duggan says: “Yes, we foresee a short-term increase in illegal dumping and littering in rural Aylmer’s agricultural zone.”  

Councillor Duggan goes on to say:  ”…we’ll start with education and fines and see where these lead.”   When does the education start?  When can we expect to see fines?  Without action by the municipality, in advance of the new garbage limits, this will only get worse.
