Ville de Gatineau to hold information session about heritage building restoration November 3

The Ville de Gatineau will be hosting its second information session on maintaining and restoring heritage buildings on Thursday, November 3. The event will take place at 7:00 pm at the Jean-René Monette building on 89 rue Jean-René-Monette in the Gatineau sector. The session aims to raise awareness and impart knowledge about heritage restoration through presentations and film screenings, as well as highlight the importance of both traditional and modern built heritage across the city.
The event’s presentations will include a talk on archival research by Jacinthe Duval, an archivist from the Bibliothèque et Archives Nationales du Québec (BANQ), a presentation about the city’s financial assistance program for restoring and maintaining heritage properties (Programme d'aide financière pour la mise en valeur du patrimoine bâti), and a presentation about the Inventory and Discovery Platform for modern built heritage by Director of Strategies at EVOQ Strategies Dr. Christophe Rivet. Following the three presentations, there will be a screening of excerpts from two archival films from BANQ about Old Hull and Old Aylmer from the 1940s and 1950s that highlight their industries and businesses.
Discussing the information session, Mario Aubé, President of the city’s Local Heritage Council (Conseil local du patrimoine) and Councillor for the Masson-Angers district, encouraged anyone interested to sign up for the event. “The Ville de Gatineau recognizes the importance of built heritage and wants to improve the population’s knowledge of it,” he said. “All residents interested in the restoration of built heritage are invited to attend the information session on November 3, including the presentations by heritage specialists, and to share their views.”

This event is the second information session on heritage restoration that the Ville de Gatineau has organized, following one in April. Given the popularity of the first session, the city decided to organize two further sessions. The third will take place in the Buckingham sector at a date to be determined.
