Work will start next summer
Vanier Road project on the way
Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
Some thirty curious residents attended the information session on the Vanier Road (between Lucerne Boulevard and Martel Street) project plans held in Deschênes on January 28. “Residents were especially happy to see that the Deschênes Ward potential is recognized and that, finally, concrete projects are on the way to enhance the area. I am very pleased that the revitalization and embellishment project for Vanier Road is going forward as early as next summer,” Deschênes Councillor Richard M. Bégin told those in attendance.
During the information session, representatives from the Urbanism Department presented the plans to the participants gathered at the André-Touchet Commun-ity Centre on Vanier Road. With sewer and water system work starting in May, the timing is perfect to revamp that section of Vanier Road. The City plans on standardizing the street, widening the sidewalks, planting trees, as well as adding some urban furniture and a recreation path, that will please cyclists. Furthermore, parking on both sides of the street will be allowed only in the commercial section, between Madaire and Deschênes streets. The remaining section of the street will be permit-parking only, on one side.
The $583,900 Vanier Road project can go ahead thanks to money coming from the Aylmer Communities Development Fund and provincial government funding.

Boucher Forest
The half million dollars became available following last June’s revision of how the community development fund was to be shared between the three Aylmer Councillors. At the time, Mr. Bégin re-allocated money that had been set aside for projects that were on hold such as the D’Arcy McGee palestra and the Boucher Forest observation tower.
A call to tender will be released in the next few months. The project will be split into two phases running from May to November 2015, and then summer and fall 2016.
