Aylmer Road to McConnell:
Vanier Road not at flood risk
During the 2017 spring flood, a portion of Vanier Road was closed due to high water. This generated rumours that the residential area east of Vanier between Aylmer Road and McConnell Road is considered to be in the flood plain. But Gatineau City maps do not indicate a flood risk there, and the properties are therefore not considered to be in a naturally-created flood zone, not for the 0-20 year risk, nor for the longer-term risk.
Homes for sale in this neighbourhood, the map indicates, are not considered in flood zone. However, individual homes may have experienced water infiltration and, if so, this must be declared when putting them on the market. A complete study of the city’s flood zones is public and can be found on the city’s website, in the Atlas section.
