Urgent need for a warehouse for the Aylmer Food Centre

The Aylmer Food Centre is in urgent need of a new facility to store its food for the winter season. 

This need has arisen because the owner, who allowed the Food Centre to use the present premises free of charge, must now carry out renovations. He intends to use the site for other purposes afterwards.

Gérard Émond, President of the Aylmer Food Centre, told the Bulletin that he needed to find a new location “as soon as possible” since the old warehouse must be emptied before December 13.

“The people of Aylmer are extremely generous and our volunteers are exceptional. We really are blessed. On the other hand, the holidays are coming and I have 15,000 kilos of bulk food to store. It’s  good to have so much, but if I don’t have a place to use, I’m in trouble,” he said.

According to Mr Émond, nearly half of the annual donations made by citizens are made during the holiday season. Each year, the food centre distributes nearly 150,000,000 kilos of food through its school events, homelessness prevention and psychosocial interventions, as well as through its weekly activities.

 

In 2018-2019, the Centre distributed more than $12,000 worth of food per week, which helped feed more than 1,500 people, including 600 children. 

The ideal space the centre is looking for must have a surface area of between 500 and 2000 feet and must be available free of charge until March 31, 2020.
