Two new greening projects for Old Aylmer
The Aylmer Village Residents’ Association and the Association of professionals, industrialists and business people of Aylmer (APICA), with funding from the city of Gatineau’s Green Fund and the support of District Councillor Audrey Bureau, have set up two new projects focusing on the greening of the Old-Aylmer sector.
The first project called “My Green Neighbourhood” aims to map the neighbourhood in order to identify the areas that can be reforested, as well as the type of trees that can be planted there, depending on soil quality.
A special event to present this mapping and launch the reforestation project will be held this fall, led by Pascal Samson and his team of experts.
The second project, which is called “Eco-citizen gestures for a green neighborhood”, aims at raising awareness among neighbourhood residents and shopkeepers about the positive impact of rainwater harvesting on the environment.
Via press release, the group of organizations known as “Les Partenaires du secteur Aylmer stated, “The demand for rainwater barrels was beyond our expectations; more than 120 people have expressed their interest in receiving one. So far, about 20 water barrels were distributed to 20 different homes on July 20.
As part of the initiative Principal Street businesses will also be contacted to identify their interest in greening their land or installing garden bins that could accommodate shared Vegetable Gardens.
Both projects are part of an initiative to green the neighbourhood and mobilize its citizens and businesses to contribute to a greener neighbourhood and a more attractive commercial street for residents and visitors alike.
