Tramway to Ottawa?
I find it humorous, and certainly premature, for the STO to be making transit presentations to the City of Ottawa. The scenarios being proposed are flawed and don’t have a hope in hell of being approved.
Our city has wasted millions of dollars on studies, now useless. The urban plan for Aylmer does not include a tramway on Aylmer Road. I guess the consultant didn’t look at that! Can you imagine the $$ required just for expropriation of property along Aylmer Road? Forget the other costs.
Allumetières is another poor choice. Two past councillors have suggested adding a bus lane to this roadway. Works for me, and it’s a cheap alternative .
People new to Aylmer should know that years ago a rail-line ran along the lower Aylmer Road (Lucerne) to downtown Ottawa. Why not revisit this?
I’m suggesting there are better alternatives than the two routes presented to Ottawa. Time for the STO to take a step back for a second thought?
Mike Fahey,
Aylmer
