Tories dump ex-cabinet minister

 

Former CPC Minister Steven Fletcher’s seeking his riding’s nomination has, for no stated reason, been rejected by those controlling his Party.

The Canadian format for electing riding candidates was the holding of Riding Conventions. After being nominated by First and Seconding Riding Members’ speeches, all candidates addressed the Convention. After which, all Riding Members present voted and elected the person to run as their Candidate.

Today all persons, in all Ridings in Canada, must obtain permission from this Party’s powers above to have their name placed for nomination in their Riding.

Steven Fletcher ought to able to stand for nomination.

If he is not, decision making power no longer flows democratically upward from Ridings - but arbitrarily downward.

(NOTE: Mr Fletcher, a well-known spokesperson for people with disabilities, was appointed minister by Stephen Harper, and then was elected an MLA in Manitoba after Trudeau’s sweep. He apparently won the riding’s endorsement for next year’s federal election, but was disqualified by the Conservative Party headquarters. No reasons given.
