Tony’s Promise
Cégep Heritage College establishes new bursary in memory of Anthony McColl
On Thursday April 26, 2018, Cégep Heritage College held their annual awards evening. The event recognizes students who have distinguished themselves during the academic year, including social and cultural recognition and athletic awards. Heritage College also presents many Foundation awards. These bursaries are awarded in memory of certain Heritage students. This year, the Board of Directors awarded the newest bursary honouring Anthony “Tony” McColl. He was an avid rugby player for the Heritage Hurricanes.
McColl was still taking courses in the Visual Arts program when, as the designated driver of guests returning from a rural house party, he was killed by an impaired driver being chased by police.
The first recipient of the Anthony McColl Memorial Bursary was Julie Sabourin (2nd year nursing student).
The ceremony was moving for the McColl family and David McColl commented, "These bursaries are helping people; he would have liked that."
