LETTER
LETTRE
They're wrong, we're right ...
Mr. Kossovan (Letter, June 8) asks why Canada didn’t sanction the US for its airstrikes against
Iraq, Syria, and Libya, back then. Were we consistent in our reasoning, says he, we wouldn’t,
now be sanctioning Russia for destroying much of Ukraine .... for maiming, displacing and
killing thousands of its citizens. All Russia has been doing is the same as what the US did.
Really? The US came to the defence of the people of Iraq, Syria, and Libya because they were
being persecuted by their own demented tyrants. There is no parallel to be found between that and what’s happening with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In this case, there is an act of war, a country attempting, by force, to take over the territory of another.
Putin has tried to peddle, as justification for his criminal behavior, the idea that he is defending
the Ukrainian people who are being put upon by their country’s fascist regime. The pot calling
the kettle black. Russia is nothing but the finest example of failed communism and despicable
fascist rule. For Putin to claim that Ukrainians were to be saved from the type of police state he
has created in his own country, is the epitome of hypocrisy and gall.
Or is Mr. Kossovan’s “freethinker” gibberish just more tiresome anti-Americanism?
