--- Ah! The official languages!
Mr. Peries is quite correct in pointing out that, for a country with two official languages, the French-speaking population is woefully unsupported in all but a few areas of the country. The concept of two official languages however is to support people that speak either, not to drive or mandate that the entire population must speak both. We should not be surprised that there are English-only speakers in Toronto or French-only speakers in Quebec City. We are still free to speak the language we choose.
The fact that there are public-facing representatives of the government in either location who cannot converse with some of the public must change, or the language act needs to be rescinded. The charade has gone on long enough.
