The new ADOGatineau online portal: a municipal first in Quebec

The new ADOGatineau portal, one of the first municipal initiatives of its kind in Quebec, was unveiled on September 15 at a special press conference held at École secondaire de la Nouvelle-Ère. It was a partnership between City of Gatineau and the Commission jeunesse that made it possible to set up this new virtual resource for teenagers aged 12 to 17, in addition to sections reserved for parents and teachers of this age group. As one of the first actions of the Municipal Youth Action Strategy (Stratégie municipale d’action jeunesse) 2022-2024 Action Plan, the launch of the platform was announced by the Commission jeunesse (including Touraine District Councillor Tiffany-Lee Norris Parent). With 11 specific themes, ADOGatineau is intended to be a reference point for services and activities dedicated to youth in the region. The themes include the following information in the form of sections: recreational activities, courses and events, culture and inclusion, schools and school support, jobs and involvement, the environment, a section on "Us, the city and the media", organizations, parks and green spaces, health and support resources, and transportation in Gatineau. Gatineau and the Commission jeunesse have given themselves a three-year timeframe, until the end of the 2022-2024 Action Plan, to ensure that the offer and information related to each service is up to date. This achievement is planned thanks to close collaboration between the municipal authorities and the many partners involved in this project, including some fifteen municipal organizations and services such as Jeunesse Idem, the Société de transport de l'Outaouais, Enviro éduc-action and the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux de l'Outaouais (CISSSO).

Tiffany-Lee Norris Parent and Katanan Touré, co-presidents of the Commission jeunesse Gatineau, mentioned their enthusiasm for this news: "The launch of the ADOGatineau.ca portal is the realization of an idea that comes from you, the youth, to solve a communication issue that often prevents you from participating in activities, knowing where to volunteer or even finding a job. This is why we are very proud that the city and its youth partners were able to mobilize their strengths to make this project a reality, which will meet the needs of more than 19,000 teenagers in Gatineau!”.
