LETTER
LETTRE
The municipal election, 2021
As a recent widow, mother, grandmother with experience in six cultures as a Foreign Service Career Support Staff Spouse my perspective is based on purchasing our first home in Aylmer in 1976. What a blessing that was, and, since that time, to live in Aylmer full time since 1986!
To see Canada become a Third World culture is deeply disturbing; I have witnessed trees and Nature constantly replaced by cement. The population has exploded like a time bomb in our National Capital Region. We have reached a point where citizens voices of wisdom are awakening. And hearing the voices in the letter of mothers, grandmothers and leaders, Nov. 3, how wonderful to join them to care for our one home in Aylmer and Deschenes! To expand hope amid noise and air pollution -- and the Cook Road methane gas leaking for years.
Let us overcome the dis-ease of apathy. We voted for those who can listen and hear new ideas to work together and inspire change. Who can say yes or no to expensive projects, to new options like an electric tram. Who will use less money to fix ageing infrastructure, pipes and roads, and consider creating a Ring Road, as in London, England. Use our present infrastructure!
And care for the people who live and pay taxes so they stay healthy as they walk, work, shop and play, all ages, with safety and a quality of life in their communities. Attract tourists to see our quality of life! We need a new Council that listens to community groups, with vision to work together as one city, one humanity. How could we afford not to get informed and not to vote?
