The more things don’t change...
I have not heard from the climate-change deniers much this summer. Apparently it’s the hottest on record – around the world. Photos from Greece and California look, literally, like hell. Meanwhile Canada seems to be busily burning away.
Deniers will shift to saying it’s not our fault, not human activity. All that carbon in the air is not from cars, trucks and big aircraft (going anywhere this summer?). Pump more oil – our economy needs it. We have to buy more stuff and that means we need more money. “Our economy” is not ours, it is the economy of international corporations. We don’t even own an oil company anymore. They are foreign owned, and we need them because they give local people work. So we can buy our stuff at the super-stores of other international corporations.
But all this violent language about blaming everyone else gets us nowhere fast. I would like to see some serious planning about long- and short-term actions to react and to improve our possibilities – our possibilities to survive, at least as long as did the dinosaurs! No kidding, so far the dinosaurs are proving to be more intelligent as a species than our own! We can’t figure out a plan? We can’t get onboard a plan? We can’t forgo gasoline or air travel to Barbados? Apparently not. What a hot summer.
