Ottawa Riverkeeper Swim from Aylmer to Shirley’s Bay

The second annual Ottawa Riverkeeper 4k Open Water Inter-Provincial Swim was held at the parc des Cèdres, August 15. The series of races splashed off at 7:30 am to raise money for and awareness about the Ottawa River. “Water quality knows no borders,” noted Ruth McKlusky, development director with Ottawa Riverkeeper.

 

Tom Anzai, the race director, highlighted the importance of the swim, “We can all tell our grandchildren that we swam our historic river from one province to another and did our part to help protect local waterways.”

The swim was open to competitive and master swimmers and triathletes, was fully-supported and limited to two hours.
A breakfast and shuttle back to Aylmer was provided.  The estimated final tally is approximately $7,000. Nicolas Masse Savard won 1st overall by swimming across the river at a time of 54:22:00, in the non-wet suit division. See the Bulletin website for standings. To donate anytime: 613 321-1120.
