The connexions resource centre: helping Aylmer
Sophie Demers
The Connexions Resource Centre is a non-profit community organization located at 67 rue du Couvent in Aylmer. Their mission is to promote the health, vitality, and well-being of the English population in the Outaouais. They achieve this by offering events, courses, and activities to aid residents.
They offer services to families, seniors, children, care givers, those with special needs, as well as mental health services.
For seniors, Connexions offers the Community Health Education Program, which is a community-based learning opportunity for rural and remote English speakers on health and social services. They also offer Jog Your Mind workshops that promote intellectual vitality for seniors worried about changes in their memory. There are also virtual senior exercise and dance classes, and workshops.
Families and children can take advantage of the Itsy Bitsy Tots Playgroup which offers a social-support network for English-speaking parents of children between 0 and 5 years of age. They offer school readiness kits during kindergarten open-houses at various schools. The kits prepare young children for the change from home or daycare to school.
Connexions creates a strong community by providing information, offering health promotion programs and activities, as well as collaborating with community partners to meet the needs of Aylmer residents.
