The agreement with the Fondation forêt Boucher is a highlight of the past year

During his mid-term interview with the Bulletin, the Mayor pointed out that one of his major victories for the past year was the agreement signed earlier this year between the City of Gatineau and the Boucher Forest Foundation.

As part of the agreement, Ville de Gatineau allocated $785,000 and responsibility for forest management to the Boucher Forest Foundation, which has also committed to invest $140,000 in financial and volunteer contributions.

“What we did for the Boucher Forest is very important to me and I think for the whole city. The Boucher Forest is a real jewel for the region. The agreement makes Gatineau’s commitment to the urban outdoor environment clear and allows us to protect and enhance an environment of great ecological richness. Allowing the Foundation to be financially stable is important not only for Aylmer, but for the city as a whole,” said Pedneaud-Jobin. 

The agreement was ratified by the City Council in Aylmer on May 14 and provides control of the forest to the Foundation from 2019 to 2021.

Covering nearly 700 acres and containing more than 400 plant and animal species, the Boucher Forest represents one of the most promising sites for the protection and enhancement of the urban outdoor environment.
