LETTER
Thank you, Bulletin d’Aylmer
I wish to thank the Bulletin staff for continuing to produce our community newspaper. Just having it arrive regularly is re-assuring – and that is a big thing amid this COVID crisis. Most media that I watch or read seems focused on scaring us. Actually I think it is the kind of journalism our media and journalists are taught is “professional”. Look for the story with any potential to grab eyeballs or grab our attention without offending us otherwise. The mainline media sees this pandemic as a lifeline – for themselves! One outlet starts its broadcasts with very serious warnings abut following the rules and repeats how deadly this virus can be – and jumps right into every story possible that will terrify or sadden us! They claim to be concerned for frontline health workers, old age home workers, household pets, police and firefighters, etc – but they use every disaster story of these brave people to terrify us sitting at home.
And what about us? Why do we buy into such sloppy media? Because we’re bored just sitting at home?
