Ten tough questions for candidates on the doorstep
Many people are never sure what to say to a candidate on their doorstep, so here are ten brief questions when they ring your doorbell ...
1. Everyone has proposals for new spending projects. How do you plan to save taxpayers' money?
2. How do you propose to solve the daily traffic gridlock at the Champlain Bridge?
3. Gatineau Flooding - What went wrong and how would you fix it?
4. STO - Many are upset with "buses to nowhere" while others are laughably overloaded - What are your proposals?
5. Where's the new downtown Aylmer police station that residents were expecting and what are you going to do about it?
6. With child obesity and diabetes at epidemic levels, what changes would you propose, and would you support banning soda-drinks machines in schools?
7. Diapers represent 24% of all trash by weight; what plans do you have to improve recycling?
8. Although the current base rate is 1%, the long-term interest rate is 9%. How would you deal with a possible Toronto-style real estate crash here, and do you support continuing to approve condo developments?
9. Fluoridization of the water supply - Would you support it or oppose it?
10. If you are a "man/woman of the people", what have you been doing over the last four years?
