Take the high road

 

As your readers know, I express my opinions on a variety of issues. Mostly, they reflect my right-wing bent, but my views are always supported with research.  It may be something recent or it may have been longstanding, but I noticed in the last two letters by detractors of my views, that they ascribed negative comments about me personally and not just my perspective. A couple of weeks ago, David Desjardins suggested I am a climate-change denier and am living in a fantasy world (or words to that effect).  In this week's Bulletin (June 1), Craig Gaston likens me to the CEO of Exxon.  (Was that meant to be an insult?)

 

I don't know why certain views cannot be looked at without having to colour the writer with negative attributes. Over the years, I have written a number of letters arguing the other side of the issue-of-the-day, but I have never made any
personal detrimental comments about (other) letter writers. Though I may not agree with their opinions, I don't resort to ascribing negative connotations to their persons.
