Sylive Goneau mayoral candidacy aims to improve the city’s top administration

Sylvie Goneau, Municipal Councillor for the district of Bellevue since 2009, will be running for Mayor of Gatineau in November’s municipal elections. Goneau has stated that solid fiscal management, city administration, and representing voters are at the heart of her priorities.

Mme Goneau holds a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management, a certificate in Special Events Planning and has done University studies in accounting and financial planning. She announced her candidacy at the end of a speech she gave at the Salon de la femme in November of 2016 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy where she stated the importance of women taking their “place at the table”.

Mme Goneau’s primary objectives are to increase the quality of life for citizens by supporting their initiatives. A 2016 survey done by Segma-Radio-Canada placed Goneau well behind Mr Pedneaud-Jobin. Goneau reacted by saying that she is “tenacious and a poll like that will make me push harder, not back down”.

After two terms as a Municipal Councillor, she decided it was time to take the leap and run for Mayor. “It’s something I have wanted to do and have been considering for a while. I want to motivate certain people to not be afraid of the challenge.”

Goneau will be running against the current Mayor of Gatineau Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, who represents the Action Gatineau party, and Independent Municipal Councillor for the district of Touraine Denis Tassé.
