Suspect package
Two buildings emptied on Aylmer Road
An unidentified device created a commotion January 3 in Aylmer. That afternoon, police officers entered 358 Aylmer Road where the unidentified and suspicious package was found.
During the operation, Aylmer Road between Fraser and Cochrane Roads was closed in both directions and people were evacuated from 358 and 362 Aylmer Road, or confined to nearby buildings. After a couple of hours, police reopened the street and permitted traffic to resume.
“It was a potentially dangerous package. After consulting with experts, we concluded that the item was inert,” said Jean-Paul Lemay, Gatineau police spokesperson. Police did not call explosives experts from the Sûreté du Québec. According to several reports, the object was “a military device”.
