---Studio Abondanse Plus, Aylmer’s newest dance destination for all ages
For those wanting to dance like Fred Astaire and learn how to do it, Aylmer’s newest studio is more than prepared with the right tools to teach you. Located on 204 rue Principale, Studio Abondanse Plus is dedicated to giving locals a whole different kind of dance studio than what they’re used to.
Owned by Véronique Durand and her husband Berny Jean, the vision behind the business was to bring a unique dance studio to the region by combining dancing with other types of training disciplines like Zumba and yoga. “We really wanted to create something that would get people moving,” Durand said. “There wasn’t really that in the Outaouais. Yes, there were yoga studios and all that. But we wanted to bring it all into one.”
Officially opened on September 7, Durand noted that the studio has been well appreciated by the community thus far, adding that being located on Aylmer’s main street has been a dream come true. “We’ve had so many positive comments,” Durand said. Providing a diverse selection of services, the studio offers dance lessons for a dozen different styles including hip-hop, contemporary and ballet, as well as more exotic ones like dancehall, bachata and salsa. “We knew people really loved these styles here, as we’ve seen at the marina on the patio,” Durand said.
Intended for people of all ages, the studio also offers yoga and meditation sessions, private choreography lessons as well as workout classes and event services like birthday parties and workshops. The studio also provides a summer camp for kids, which will begin on June 21 2021. Registrations for the 2021 camp can be done online. Still accepting registrations until December, folks can register for classes at the studio.
For those wanting to give one of the classes a go but not fully ready to commit to it, the studio also offers free trials upon appointment. Understanding that co-owning a dance studio will come with many challenges, Jean said he’s grateful to be in the position he’s in and committed to ensuring the business’s longevity and positive reputation in the community. “We want people to know about and really appreciate our service compared to all other local dance schools,” Jean said.
While the business took approximately a year to finally open, Durand and Jean said the idea of opening their own dance studio came to mind back in their high school days at Grande-Rivière. Besides its website, the studio can be reached via email - studioabondanseplus@outlook.com – on Facebook, by phone – (819) 684-1788 – or in person.
