English board may get first program: information session at Hadley/Philemon Wright High School
The Western Québec School Board (WQSB) will host an information session on October 4 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm about the potential application for a Sport-études Program at Hadley/ Philemon Wright High School (Hadley-PWHS) for the 2017-2018 school year. The session will be held at the WQSB office located at 15 Katimavik Street in Aylmer.
Last year, the WQSB was unable to recruit enough students to launch the sports program at Hadley-PWHS. The Ministry stipulates that a high school must have a minimum of 25 student-athletes recognized by a sports federation. The list of potential sport-études partners is roughly two dozen. The school and the board had embarked on their application with the Ministry a couple of years ago.
This information session will provide parents, guardians, students, and local accredited sports organizations with information regarding the 2016 Sport-études Program application, and give them an opportunity to show interest in a potential re-application for 2017-2018.
Sport-études programs are intended to support student athletes who are presently recognized by their accredited sports federation for their athletic performance and for their successful academic performance in secondary school.
The Polyvalente Nicolas-Gatineau, located beside the Branchaud-Brière sports complex, l’École secondaire Mont-Bleu and l’École secondaire de l'Île are the three schools in Outaouais which offer sports-études in various disciplines. There is no recognized sports program at the primary level and no sports-study program for English high schools in West Québec.
