$634 fine
Speeding in an Aylmer school zone
Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
During students’ lunch hour on March 20, Gatineau Police intercepted a vehicle running at 78 km/hr on Wilfrid-Lavigne Boulevard, heading south at 12:20 p.m. The vehicle was driving in a school zone where speed limit is 30 km/hr.
Under the Code de la sécurité routière, Police were running an operation aiming to have the school zone speed limit respected. The driver, an 18 year-old man, was summoned with a $634 fine plus 10 demerit points added to his driver’s record. The driver’s probationary license was also suspended for a period of seven days and his vehicle was parked.
The Gatineau Police reminds citizens of the importance of respecting speed limits in school zones. If drivers reduced their average cruising speed by 5 km/hr, the number of injuries and deaths on our roads would decrease by 15%, according to patrollers.
