So many people joined composting program, city cancelled it
Stimulated by our recent wonderful Spring weather, I decided to peruse the City of Gatineau website for "Free Composting Distribution". This is an annual activity I plan with a few friends to collect my free composting material for the coming planting season. Much to my dismay, I found a notice stating that the City is discontinuing this wonderful service.
I tried reaching the composting department to voice my disappointment about their decision and convey the fact that this cancellation may invite citizens to stop their organic donations. I was told the City would respond to my concerns within 7 days.
Since I believe that most of the citizens who contributed their organics to this program make good use of the city's free composting, it is possible that the city's decision to stop this free distribution of composted wealth may convince gardeners to keep their organics for composting at home. What does the city intend to do with the rich compost it produces? Sell it for profit?
