LETTER
Snow removal
I have a relative living in Edmonton and I was telling her about the poor snow removal services we had in Gatineau last year until she interrupted me. Did you know home and business owners are responsible for clearing the snow or ice on sidewalks in front of their property in Edmonton?
Edmonton’s website: The City has specific standards for clearing snow and ice from sidewalks. When private property owners fail to meet the standards (“A person shall maintain any sidewalk adjacent to land they own or occupy clear of all snow and ice“) bylaw tickets are issued and owners are invoiced the cost to have contractors clean the sidewalks.
Snow and ice is to be removed from the sidewalks as quickly as possible. The fine for violating the snow and ice bylaw is $100.
I am not defending the city of Gatineau (especially after last winter’s disaster), but aren’t we better off than Edmonton?
