I came across a very interesting article on the link between areas not served by a local paper and the election results for Donald Trump in 2016. The absence of a trusted local source permitted this candidate to become the “trusted source”. This speaks volumes about the need for a local news source. As someone who is unable to consume French news content, I would be far less informed about my community without the Bulletin and West Quebec Post. Keep up the good work.

ED note: Thanks! It is also rarely noticed that the national chains have particular political agendas, as we’ve seen with the news about the Sinclair chain in the US forcing all outlets to present a corporate line on political issues. We are not immune to this in Canada, as any reader of Postmedia’s many weeklies have no doubt noticed.
