Signs to old Aylmer from bike path on track for this spring

Thousands of cyclists use the bike path along the Ottawa River, and the rest of the city, every week. Some old Aylmer businesses benefit from cyclist visits, but the owners along rue Principale have found that there is plenty of room to improve, if only cyclists knew how close they were to Aylmer’s many shops and restaurants. Over the years, several initiatives to install signage along the bike path were undertaken. This year, Gatineau is installing signs at five locations guiding cyclists to the business area of Aylmer.

The bases for the markers were installed along the bike path, known as the “sentier des Voyageurs” last fall, a city spokesperson told the Bulletin. “The drawings and samples were approved this winter and the signs are currently being manufactured to be installed in May,” the spokesperson said.

The $60,425 contract with Signalisation Saic Inc was approved by council for the signs being installed at Beaulac and Xavier Streets, at the roundabout on Principale near the Marina, at the intersections of Jubilee and Lord-Aylmer streets, at the intersection of Parker and Lord-Aylmer streets and on Lake Street between Glenholm and Lucerne.
