  Sidewalks: Myopic Aylmer must stop

 

The recent whining and complaint over the extended, new sidewalks on Chemin d'Aylmer lacks imagination, foresight and understanding.
    Our community may have 4500 - 7000 new neighbours someday, many new neighbours are also coming from Rivermead to Vanier and perhaps 5000 near the Champlain Golf course and along the way, perhaps, a new tramway.
    In the future, folks may want to ride a tramway or electric bus, walk, scooter or bike to their neighbours and friends, or businesses located east/west along that path -- all of this now possible by that sidewalk.
    Sidewalks will be here for centuries. Urban planning is complicated, and the heavy lifting, dedication, and talent within municipal government is often taken for granted.
I would suggest stop attacking sidewalks and those who are dedicating themselves to public service.
    You can make a difference and that is by participating in your local community or residents' association, build a relationship with your local councillor, and learn all that is provided by the Ville de Gatineau, in other words become engaged.
    We are all human beings, and it may be possible in the time given us for the sake of the world (one we may not see) to work together.  But don't simply whine, complain and retreat into the Aylmer CAVE (citizens against virtually everything) -- look around you, become engaged.  This is what's called "Democracy".
