LETTER
Shoot the news, not the messenger, right Mr Russell?
In response to Eric Russell’s surprising comments (last week’s Bulletin) about fake news actually being the real thing, let me advise him of the following. It is Trump who has stolen the US election. He lost the popular vote and engineered the electoral college vote via bullying and Republican party allies. The Republicans supplied phoney ballots already filled out. Trump supporters here in Canada are trying to throw the Conservative Party leadership to a radical right-winger. The radical Conservatives here are funded by American right-wing institutes and groups, like the Koch brothers who have attacked democratic guarantees in the US so successfully.
What, Mr Russell questions these news items?
How can he, he who said if the accusations against Clinton were made and not refuted, they must be true? Same goes here, Mr Russell! Doesn’t this demonstrate the hypocrisy of Mr Russell’s claims? Apparently, if views agree with his own, he doesn’t care their source and has no interest in fact-checking. Fact-checking, he clearly implied, is a way to “gatekeep” the news and keep it away from the public. Next letter from Mr Russell will no doubt support doing away with CBC, what a “gatekeeper” it is!
We don’t need US ideological ugliness here. It will give us nothing except more fake news.
