LETTER
Seven thoughts to THINK . . .
In the 70 years since the holocaust, I am reminded of one survivor saying “...when they came for our neighbor, we stood there in silence and when they came for me, there was no one to stop them”. I do not want to be silent, and those two first thoughts (dreams) are worrisome.
Dreams can be beautiful or ugly. I feel I have encountered the ugly ones, and I have a hard time to cross back to reality.
The other day I read on a CBC news flash (Jan. 19-22) informing us that Russia signed a military pact of
cooperation with Iran, as well as a treaty to fight terrorism. Different than what we face. THINK.
Then on CHCH Hamilton I encounter another news flash (Jan. 19-22): the atomic scientists have moved the clock indicating the doomsday from 5 minutes to 3 minutes to the hour. That is 40% closer! THINK.
Then comes a memory flash, the not so leaked e-mail from Conservatives informing their members: ‘Who does not agree with us, is our enemy’, followed by similar nonsense such as 'Who is not with us is against us!’ (a Communist slogan used by Mr. Bush). THINK.
And then our beaver appears to be meddling in Ukraine with the bear. THINK.
And then a flashback from four years ago when president Putin became the enemy when he vetoed the planed attack on Syria, and warned of the vacuum which will give rise to -- guess who?! ISIS, as if the Taliban and al-Qaeda are not enough. THINK.
We are expanding exponentially our 'culture of the enemy', and in our unstoppable thirst for more “enemies” we are re-awaking a forgotten thirst for domination of the world. THINK.
And finally us, Canada, once the peaceful country, admired and envied by the whole world as an example of human cooperation, tolerance and Democracy, with a capital D, losing its virginity in bed with the wrong fellow(s). THINK.
Please, somebody wake me up and tell me it is O.K.; that this is all just a bad dream!
