LETTER
Seniors impatient with non-action on CPP
Seniors and retiree groups across the country joined to release an open letter calling on the finance ministers meeting last week to take action on increasing CPP with specific details and deadlines. They clearly heard us.
Canada’s finance ministers met in Vancouver this weekend and CPP was on the agenda. A national collaboration of seniors groups, retiree organizations and others who have been advocating for an increase to the CPP to help Canadians save more adequately for their own retirement released an open letter calling for specifics.
It is well past time for the finance ministers to act on increasing the CPP, especially as the Trudeau Liberals promised during the election that they would work with the provinces to increase the CPP. Now we’ve learned that some of the provinces are not ready to move forward, despite ensuring us that they are concerned about Canadians needing help in retirement. We need to see specific action with set timelines, not more fine words from these provinces.
