Gatineau’s businesses can now stay open late

The Quebec Ministry of Economy has ruled that Gatineau businesses should be permitted to stay open until 9 pm on Saturdays. There are certain exceptions, such as for any Saturday that is, or precedes, a civic holiday.

The request to change the closing time came from a group of Gatineau commercial interests. Gatineau businesses face competition from Ottawa, where shops can stay open until 9 pm. The change from a 5 pm closing to 9 pm on Saturdays gives Gatineau businesses an attraction to keep customers at home who might otherwise be heading to Ottawa to shop.
