LETTER
Saturday, on nuclear waste
The public is cordially invited to a one-day retreat on Saturday, December 15, hosted by the National Capital Peace Council on the topic of Chalk River nuclear waste. It will be a roundtable discussion with the theme of “moving beyond awareness to real change”. The meeting will be held at the Pine Lodge in Bristol, Quebec, just off Highway 148 in MRC Pontiac. The morning session will include a water blessing ceremony and will focus on ways that Indigenous and non-Indigenous people can work together on the issue -- led by Aboriginal leader Dr Cynthia Stirbys. The afternoon’s panel discussion, moderated by Eva Schacherl, focuses on getting political buy-in during the coming federal election campaign and other tactics for achieving real change on the issue.
This is an opportunity to retreat from the hustle and bustle for a day in a very peaceful setting by the Ottawa River, to brainstorm and develop strategies for the coming year with a small group of colleagues and friends. We hope to see some of you there, schedules permitting!
Please contact Daniel Stringer, Chair of the Peace Council, directly if you would like to attend the meeting. You can reach him at: Daniel Stringer at <thestring@rogers.com>
