SAQ employees approve 18 strike days
September 28, the 2,500 employees of the SAQ (liquor store outlets) voted by 96% to extend their current job action by another 18 days of strike. Employees in the Outaouais participated via webdiffusion; local employees told the Bulletin they cannot understand why the crown corporation is resisting their requests, the most significant being that part-time employees have permission to take a second job. “This is not about money, so why is the government so beligerant?” asked an employee who wished not to be identified. “I am surprised they are letting this become an election issue so close to voting day,” she added.
Union president Katia Leliève told the media that work stoppages are the only means the employees have to communicate with the government. (FR)
