Last minute preparations going well
Saint-Paul’s Church is opening again
Laurent Robillard-Cardinal
The reconstruction project of the Saint-Paul’s Church is almost complete. The Parish is now looking at the last details, preparing for its first public mass scheduled for March 29. “We have two big weeks left”, explained Denise Chamberland, spokes person for the Saint-Paul’s Parish in Aylmer.
When The Bulletin made a quick tour inside the church, Parish members were waiting to receive the musical instruments and some furniture. They had recently received a hundred new chairs, still wrapped and nicely spread out. The nave of the church was almost ready to welcome the faithful. “We will also soon install the Saint-Paul statue (that we were able to recover) in the entrance,” explained Ms Chamberland, “The statue will be oriented exactly as it was before.”
The statue was previously lodged near the bell tower and was recovered before the church demolition. Of the old church, only the main entrance arch remains. The restoration of the ruins will continue in April and May. Landscaping will follow.
The Conseil de la Fabrique is still working on the community hall that will be able to accommodate almost 200 people for “all kinds of events.”
The new church is equipped with a sprinkler system, video surveillance cameras and an alarm system.
