RUSAF banned from Olympics (Or, Training of a dog by Pavlov)

 

I do not question the decision of IAAF to impose a ban on participation of Russia in the Olympic games in Rio; that’s done. Though not an unprecedented move, this is a slightly desperate action on the side of decision-makers, the IAAF.

Collective punishment is not new in world history; the best example is offered by Spartacus and his revolt, resulting in four thousand slaves being crucified along the Via Apia. Consequently, slavery in Europe was abolished much later, but the old practices die hard.

Should we be proud that we take a major competitor in athletics out of the competition? It may seem justified. But will it be worth watching? So why the cheering of our athletes unified in one cheer (on radio).

Have any of our athletes heard of 'solidarity' of athletes around the world? Or does this present itself as an opportunity to shine, gain something not deserved?

"Punish those Ruskies, all of them!" I hear the mob! We have the victory in our sight; or do we? Politics or rational?

A very wrong decision from where I stand with my life experience. What do you say, what is your opinion? Mr Harper must be smiling seeing his seeds germinate.

I say 'victory by banishment’ is no victory at all, it is sad virtual reality. If I may give advice to our athletes, I would say: take a pause in training, and think a bit, show some independent thought.
