Rue Principale : Surprises to discover!
Having friends or family visiting? Thinking about taking them somewhere special to eat? Or just thinking about a lazy summer picnic at the beach? Look no further than Aylmer’s Rue Principale--the place to be during the summer.
Eating out
Breakfast can’t get any better than Aylmer’s premier breakfast place: Le Matinale. With friendly host and wait staff and hearty meals, you’ll start your day off on the right foot. Thinking of a night on the town? Lanterne de Szechwan offers well over 100 delicious authenthic dishes, including tea smoked duck and mu shu pork, served in the intimate restaurant or available for takeout. Bistro Mexicana 129 has a gorgeous patio; plan on spending a lazy evening feasting on fantastic Mexican food (try the Bandera—chicken, beef and cheese tortillas covered in sauces to look like the Mexican flag) and sipping a delicious margarita. L’Aubergiste also has a lovely patio and an inventive menu to go with it, including crostini with onion-maple syrup butter and a pulled duck confit in pastry with a wine and fig sauce. Antonyme’s intriguing dishes include the crowd-pleasing candied escargot and fish and chips.
Picnicking
For a lovely evening with friends, do as the French do: take a reusable bag and walk down the street, purchasing treats for supper from Rue Principale’s amazing shops. First off, stop at Giant Tiger for picnic supplies or other necessities such as sunblock. Then head to the Boulangerie aux des frères for some bread (and pastries for tomorrow morning!) and stop in Marché Laflamme for fresh fruit, vegetables and drinks.
As you continue to make your way towards the river, you’ll see the Walter J. William sausage shop that offers an intriguing assortment of sausages (which they can grill to order), ready-to-eat smoked sausages, sandwiches, condiments and fine cheeses. To finish, pick up dessert at Gateau Neo, with its mouthwatering cakes and pastries.
Then make your way to the loveliest picnic spot around, Aylmer’s beachfront. Or, if you’re taking this adventure on August 3, stop by Parc de l’Imaginaire for the world music fest.
Other amenities
You can also nourish your spirit on Rue Principale; both David Milot and Blaise T. Ryan are accupuncturists; Mr Ryan has studied traditional Chinese medicine. More practically, your vehicle will receive excellent maintenance at Garage Grande-Riviere and Garage Hugo Caumartin, while Studio Beau Regarde will groom your dog (lessening summer shedding)!
There’s plenty of free parking on Rue Principale and lots to do. And this summer, there’s another plus for fans of the Pokemon Go craze—there are plenty of Pokestops along Rue Principale! Aylmer’s main street attractions : gotta catch ‘em all!
