Rue Principale Festival, August 19, 20, 21
Giant artwork will create the magic
During the Festival on Rue Principale, August 19, 20 and 21, some 30 air-inflated structures will be set up between Wilfrid-Lavigne Boulevard and Front Street.
“The idea is to create an important visual impact, decorate Rue Principale and transport people into a world of giants,” indicated Anick Néron, manager of Rue Principale’s upgrading. “We speak of artwork because the inflated structures were created by artists. Each structure will have a plaque with the artist’s name.” The inflated structures, which will be illuminated in the evening, will vary in form and will be between 15 and 20 feet high.
“This is a new project and we are lucky to have it here on Rue Principale. I think it will help contribute to Rue Principale’s visibility,” says Ms Néron.
The popular giant plastic bubbles, used to play bubble soccer, will be part of the festivities, as well as a magician and other family activities, thanks to the Rue Principale merchants. They will take place on August 20 and 21, between 11 am and 4 pm.
Even more fun will be possible with evening shows, August 19 and 20, at different Rue Principale bars and restaurants. The launch of the festival will take place from 5 to 7 pm, at the Bistro l’Autre Oeil on August 19.
“The aim of the festival is to encourage people to discover Rue Principale. Our goal is to attract 6,000 to 7,000 people on Rue Principale this year”, adds Ms Néron. During the last festival, approximately 5,000 people walked the streets of Old Aylmer.
