Rowan Tanguay
What motivated you to run as a candidate?
I’m running because I feel like the modern left-wing parties have gotten away from some of their liberal values. I want to bring classical liberal values back to Canadian Politics.
What is your full-time job?
At the moment I’m working as a bartender at a restaurant in Hull.
What are your passions in work and in life?
(Volunteerism, sport, art, etc.)
I am passionate about all forms of music, politics, public speaking, and writing.
What would your priorities be in the short and long term if you are elected?
If elected to represent Hull-Aylmer, I would first fight tooth and nail to abolish corporate subsidies. I’ve lived in Hull-Aylmer all my life, and I know a great many of the people here would be furious to find out that the government is spending a huge amount of their tax dollars on giving bonuses to big corporations, the people who need that money the least.
One of my long-term goals would be to set into motion the adoption of a drug policy similar to the one that was adopted to great effect in Portugal. I intend to work across party lines with anyone willing to take us closer to the future and finally decriminalize the possession of recreational drugs. We owe it to addicts who have felt afraid to seek treatment in the past, and we owe it to the taxpayer, who has been forced to subsidize a cruel and misguided drug war for far too long.
